Awards

Awards Granted by the Philadelphia Section

An important part of the mission of the Philadelphia Section is to recognize the contributions made to our chemical community. For this reason, the we are proud to convey a number of awards.

Section Service Award
Each year the Section honors members for their contributions to the section. The awards are based on the accumulation of points for jobs done for the section. The first award is the Section Service Award, a certificate, presented after achieving 30 points. The second award is the Ullyot Award for Meritorious Service, a plaque presented after a member has earned 60 points. The awards are usually presented in the fall.

Scholastic Achievement Awards
The Philadelphia Section, ACS, presents a Scholastic Achievement Award each year to the top-ranking senior majoring in chemistry or chemical engineering in each of the colleges and universities in the Section which has an ACS approved department or an ACS Student Affiliate Chapter. The awardees are chosen by the chemical or chemical engineering departments of their schools.

The awards consist of an individual certificate and an engraved plate in a plaque at each recipient’s school. They are usually presented at the April Section meeting.

High School Certificates
In 1967 the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Section, American Chemical Society, voted to institute a system of awards to students for excellence in chemistry at the secondary school level. Each award consists of a certificate suitable for framing. The awardees are chosen by their individual schools; the certificates are sent to the schools in the spring for presentation at an appropriate time.
